Malaysia is set to introduce a nationwide Student Protection Policy and Parent Pledge in 2026, marking a significant step towards strengthening student welfare and safety across the education system. The policy aims to safeguard the physical and psychological wellbeing of approximately 5.2 million students across 10,243 schools. 

Strengthening Student Safety Across Schools 

The new policy reflects a growing commitment to creating safer learning environments. It introduces structured measures to address concerns related to student welfare, ensuring that schools are equipped to respond effectively to a wide range of issues. 

This policy aims to ensure the physical and psychological safety of the 5.2 million students across the country’s 10,243 schools. 

A Comprehensive Approach to Student Protection 

Authorities have emphasised that the policy goes beyond addressing bullying. It includes safeguards against sexual harassment, abuse and mental health related challenges, providing a more holistic framework for student protection. 

Introducing the Sekolah Sejahtera Sekolah Selamat Manual 

The Ministry is also finalising the Sekolah Sejahtera Sekolah Selamat Manual, a guidebook that will be distributed to parents and the wider public. This manual is designed to improve awareness and understanding of safe school practices.

It will serve as a standardised reference for schools, helping them manage incidents such as bullying and harassment with greater transparency and consistency. 

“This policy is not only about bullying, but also covers sexual harassment, all forms of abuse, and issues closely related to mental health.”

Implementation and Commitment 

The rollout of the policy will include a formal pledge involving all stakeholders, reinforcing shared responsibility for student wellbeing. 

“By next week, we can ensure all parties involved will have signed the Student Protection Policy,” she added.

The introduction of this policy represents an important milestone in Malaysia’s education system. By prioritising student safety and wellbeing, it aims to create a more secure and supportive environment for learning and development.
