The hallways of Garden International School are usually filled with the sounds of student discovery and the steady hum of daily learning. But in February 2027, a different kind of energy will sweep across the campus. The school is honoured to be hosting the WISE27 Conference, a gathering that brings together educators, visionaries and leaders from around the globe.

Welcoming WISE is not simply a matter of logistics. It is a statement of identity and a reflection of a commitment to shaping the future of education.

Why the World Is Choosing This Campus

The WISE Conference is internationally recognised for its mission to support women in educational leadership and to address gender disparity in schools. Although women represent around 70 percent of the global teaching workforce, they hold only around 30 percent of Head of School positions. This imbalance represents a significant loss of talent, diversity and perspective at leadership level.

Being selected as a host school places the community at the centre of a global movement for change. It reflects shared values of equity, courage and the belief that diverse leadership strengthens outcomes for students.

My Journey in Education and Leadership

My involvement in WISE is one of the most meaningful chapters of my professional life, but it is also rooted in a much longer journey.

I began my career in secondary education as a music and drama teacher, where I learned the importance of creativity, collaboration and student voice. Those early classrooms showed how young people thrive when they feel seen and heard.

From there, I moved into senior leadership in secondary schools, followed by a role in quality assurance for a local authority focused on teaching and learning. This period deepened my understanding of high quality education and how systems can either support or limit effective practice.

My journey then progressed into primary headship across three schools, each shaping my leadership philosophy in different ways. Leading a multi academy trust as CEO later provided the opportunity to influence school culture at scale, supporting leaders and building systems that help both children and adults thrive.

Across 32 years, I have coached, mentored and supported many women stepping into leadership. This commitment is deeply personal. As a young leader, there were very few visible examples of women in senior roles, and no formal mentors to guide the journey. The path often had to be created independently, which could feel isolating.

This is why serving on the WISE Advisory Board is so important. It allows contribution to the very support structures that were missing earlier in my career. Hosting WISE27 feels like a full circle moment, reinforcing a long held commitment to leadership development and equity.

A Personal Reflection on Leadership

There is a phrase that has remained throughout my career: You cannot be what you cannot see.

WISE reflects three key principles of leadership.

The Strength of the Collective

Leadership can feel isolating. Bringing together women working in international education creates a space where collaboration replaces competition and shared experience becomes a powerful resource.

Breaking the Internal Glass Ceiling

Many leaders still experience self doubt or the pressure of contradictory expectations. WISE supports leaders in developing confidence, clarity and authenticity through shared learning and dialogue.

A Transformative Ripple Effect

Hosting WISE is not symbolic. The conversations and ideas generated will continue to influence leadership culture long after the conference ends. Stronger female leadership strengthens entire school communities.

WISE27 Wellbeing Wisdom and Women’s Leadership

The theme of WISE27 Conference focuses on wellbeing, wisdom and women’s leadership.

For too long, leadership has been framed as endurance. This conference encourages a more sustainable approach, where wellbeing is understood as essential to effective leadership and not separate from it.

The Lasting Impact Beyond the Conference

Although delegates will return to their own countries, the impact of WISE will remain. Students will witness leadership in action and see women leading organisations, supporting one another and shaping global conversations.

The experience is not only about hosting an event. It is about modelling a future where leadership is more inclusive, visible and accessible.

Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in our charge. Hosting WISE is a commitment to widening access to leadership for the next generation.

As preparations continue, there is pride in contributing to a global movement that ensures leadership in education reflects the diversity of the world it serves.
