Families in Georgia could soon benefit from a new international education option as GEMS School Management (GSM) partners with Omnia Georgia to establish a flagship school in Tbilisi. Scheduled to open in September 2029, the school will cater to students aged 3 to 18 and will be located within the Omnia Isani community in the city’s growing Isani district. The project reflects rising demand for international education in Georgia and highlights continued investment in expanding high-quality learning opportunities for families across the region.
Surge in Demand for Schools in Georgia
As demand for international education continues to grow, families are increasingly looking for schools that offer globally recognised curricula, strong pastoral care and pathways to leading universities. The planned international school Tbilisi aims to bring these opportunities closer to families living within the Omnia Isani community and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Moreover, locating a school within a residential development reflects a growing trend in education planning. Schools are becoming central community hubs where children can learn closer to home while parents benefit from easier daily routines.
Georgia’s education sector has expanded significantly in recent years. The sector is valued at more than $3 billion and contributes around 7 per cent of the country’s GDP. Meanwhile, demand for private education continues to rise. Private school enrolment is expected to increase from approximately 66,500 students in 2024 to more than 73,000 by the 2028/29 academic year. As a result, new schools are needed to meet growing demand from local and international families seeking diverse educational pathways.
Bringing Global Education Expertise to Tbilisi
Under the agreement, GEMS School Management will oversee the planning and operation of the school through its ASPIRE model. This includes curriculum planning, recruitment, safeguarding, technology integration, school design, and day-to-day operations.
Robert Tarn CBE, CEO of GEMS School Management, said:
“Through our partnership with Omnia Georgia, we look forward to bringing decades of educational expertise to a development that has been designed around families from day one. Together, we have the opportunity to create a school that sets a new benchmark for international education in Tbilisi and serves as a catalyst for educational excellence across the region.”
A School Designed Around Community Living
The project also marks GEMS School Management’s entry into Georgia and supports its wider expansion across Europe. The new school will form part of Omnia Isani, a large residential development designed with family living in mind.
Alexsi Basiashvili, CEO at Omnia, said:
“Georgia is at an exciting inflection point – a growing economy, an increasingly international population, and real appetite for the best in education. Partnering with GEMS School Management allows us to meet that demand in the most meaningful way, not just by building homes, but by creating a community where families can truly thrive. This school will be the beating heart of Omnia Isani.”
Furthermore, the partnership highlights the increasingly close relationship between education and urban development. New communities are no longer judged solely on housing and infrastructure. Access to quality education is becoming a key factor for families when deciding where to live.
A New Chapter for Education in Tbilisi
The arrival of a GEMS-managed school in Georgia reflects broader growth in international education across emerging markets. For educators, it may create future opportunities for professional development and international teaching careers. For school leaders, it offers another example of how education providers are partnering with developers to create integrated communities that place learning at their centre.
Ultimately, the international school Tbilisi project demonstrates how investment in education can support both community growth and long-term economic development, while giving families greater access to high-quality learning opportunities.
