How Week Without Walls Supports Student Learning
Week Without Walls is designed to complement classroom learning through direct experience. Learning Through Real-World Experiences
The trips are designed around different age groups and learning objectives. Grade 6 students, for example, travelled to Rayong, where they explored coastal ecosystems, limestone caves and a mangrove sanctuary.
During the trip, students also examined the impact of human activity on sustainability. This gave them an opportunity to connect environmental concepts with places and situations they could experience directly.
Meanwhile, Grades 7 and 8 spent several days in Khao Yai National Park. Their learning focused on the habits and needs of wildlife, including elephants and bats, as well as the importance of different plant species within the park.
Grades 9 and 10 travelled to Kanchanaburi, where their programme brought together subjects including World War 2 history, biodiversity and the relationship between human activity and animal life.
By exploring these themes outside the classroom, students could make connections between different areas of their learning and real-world environmental and social issues.
Developing Skills Through Adventure And Collaboration
Learning on Week Without Walls is not limited to academic activities. Students also take part in experiences such as kayaking, climbing, stargazing and team-building games.
These activities provide further opportunities for students to communicate, cooperate and manage unfamiliar situations. Moreover, working together in new environments can help students develop confidence and a greater sense of responsibility.
