Bedford School is celebrating the official opening of Bedford School Mohali, the first British international girls’ school in Northern India.
The new institution opened its doors this month, putting plans for a new school into action just 12 months after they were announced. Located in Mohali, on the outskirts of Chandigarh, Bedford School Mohali welcomes its founding cohort of pupils to a purpose-built campus designed to provide outstanding British-style education in an international setting.
British Curriculum and Global Pathways
The project has been developed in partnership with the non-profit Doon International Education Society, and offers both day and boarding options and delivers a British curriculum leading to iGCSE and iA-Level qualifications. The school is fully accredited by Cambridge International Education, enabling pupils to access globally recognised academic pathways.
A Proud Milestone for Bedford School
James Hodgson, head master of Bedford School, said
“The opening of Bedford School Mohali is a moment of immense pride for our whole community. We are thrilled to see our ethos and values come to life in India, in a school dedicated to the education and empowerment of young women. Guided by our core values of endeavour, curiosity, responsibility and integrity all underpinned by kindness, Bedford School Mohali will nurture girls who are ready to make a meaningful impact in the world.”
The school is led by its founding principal, Naomi Atkins, an experienced international educator with a proven track record of establishing and leading outstanding schools globally. She said:
“It is an honour to welcome our first pupils to Bedford School Mohali. From the very beginning, our vision has been to create a vibrant, inclusive and aspirational community where every girl is supported to thrive academically and personally. This week marks the start of an exciting journey, not only for our pupils and families, but for girls’ education in India more broadly.”
Looking Ahead
The opening of Bedford School Mohali marks an important step in expanding access to high-quality British education in India. With its focus on academic excellence, character development and global opportunities, the school aims to empower the next generation of young women to succeed both locally and internationally.
